Moloko (A Russian word meaning "milk") is the name of a leftfield dance-pop group from Sheffield, England, consisting of Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon.
The band's name originates from the novel A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess , in which it means either 'milk' or 'method of narcotic indigestion'
The first two albums Do you like my tight sweater? and I am Not a Doctor gained a cult following in the udergound dance scene, due to the experimental nature of the recordings. The band broke into the mainstream when Sing It Back, a track from I Am Not A Doctor, was remixed by house producer Boris Dlugosch. The track was a massive hit in Ibiza, and this remixed version broke into the UK charts in 1999.
The band also had chart success with The Time Is Now, the first single from the third album, Things To Make And Do. This album had relied less on the leftfield beats of the previous albums, and featured more acoustic instruments. This trend continued with the release of Statues in 2003.
In 2004 Murphy recorded her solo debut album Ruby Blue, released in June 2005. Prior to this, tracks from the forthcoming album were made available on three limited edition, vinyl-only releases: Sequins #1, Sequins #2 and Sequins #3.

Murphy was born in Dublin, and had no prior professional experience as a singer. Brydon already had an extensive resume within the dance music community as a remixer and member of pop/house acts House Arrest and Cloud 9. They met at a party in Shefield, when Roisin approched Mark using the chat-up line "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body!", which would later influence the name of their debut album. Solo Work
In addition to her work with Moloko, Murphy has contributed her vocals to the works of other artists including Handsome Boy Modeling School and she returned the favor to Dlugosch by singing on his track Never Enough, which became a huge club hit, hitting the Top 3 of the Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart.In 2004 Murphy recorded her solo debut album Ruby Blue, released in June 2005.
