Jamiroquai

(Image from Little L Videoclip)]] Jamiroquai is a British band led by lead singer Jay Kay (short for Jason Kay) and backed by bass and guitar players, drummers, and keyboardists. Their albums have sold many millions of copies. They even appeared as guests on one of Jamie Oliver's Naked Chef early shows, as the celebrity chef loves the band immensely. Jamiroquai is the most known band of the acid-jazz movement started in London; other important groups are Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Galliano and Corduroy.
The group derives its name from the native American Indian tribe the 'Iroquois' ("many aspects of their philosophy are relevant, especially their reverence of the earth") on to which they've stuck JAM; when you see them doing it live on stage you'll know why - they jam hard.
Jamiroquai's first single, "When You Gonna Learn?", was released in 1992. Jamiroquai's first album, Emergency on Planet Earth, came out in 1993.
The third album, Travelling Without Moving, yielded a big hit, "Virtual Insanity", in 1997.
Their hit single "Deeper Underground" was in the soundtrack of the 1998 movie Godzilla. Another single, "Canned Heat" was featured in the popular movie Napoleon Dynamite during the infamous dance scene.
The band's early songs had an acid jazz flavor. But due to Jay Kay's interest in funk and disco music, the band gradually shifted in other directions. By their fifth album, A Funk Odyssey (2001), the disco influence was especially evident. The fifth album's first single, "Little L", scored high in many charts worldwide.
Their latest album is titled Dynamite, which was released on June 20th 2005.
