Dark Tranquillity is a melodic death metal band from Sweden. Starting in 1989 under the name Septic Broiler, they have had a fairly stable line-up from the start, unlike many bands from the genre. Anders Fridén, Dark Tranquillity's original lead vocalist, left the band to join fellow Swedes In Flames. At the same time, In Flames gave up its lead guitarist Mikael Stanne, to Dark Tranquillity. Stanne switched to lead vocals and helped Dark Tranquillity to produce some of the most highly acclaimed Scandinavian death metal of the decade.
